22K gold rate

22K gold rate in Pakistan today

22K — stamped 916 — is the standard for Pakistani jewellery. This page shows the last 22K reading we recorded and explains how that number relates to the price of a finished piece.

What 916 actually means

22 parts out of 24 are gold: 91.6% pure, hence the 916 stamp. The remaining 8.4% is alloy that gives the piece enough hardness to survive daily wear, hold a clasp and take a polish.

Why almost all Pakistani jewellery is 22K

24K is too soft to hold a setting or a bangle shape. 22K keeps the deep yellow colour buyers here expect while being workable, which is why bridal sets, bangles and chains are made in it as a matter of course.

Reading a 22K quote correctly

If a shop quotes a 24K rate but sells you 22K, the metal value must be adjusted for purity. Ask what karat the quoted rate refers to; a clear jeweller will tell you the karat, the weight and the making charge separately.

Hallmarking and resale

A properly stamped 22K piece is straightforward to value again later, because purity is not in dispute. That is worth more at resale time than a slightly cheaper unstamped piece.
